Wakwakurna Kanyini officially launched on September 23, 2024, after decades of advocacy from local Aboriginal leaders. Wakwakurna Kanyini aims to provide leadership by representing community-led priorities to the state government. Its focus is on improving outcomes for Aboriginal children and families and strengthening the capacity of the Aboriginal community-controlled sector to deliver essential services. The organisation operates as a rights-based entity, upholding the principles of Aboriginal self-determination and human rights frameworks, including the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
