Wakwakurna Kanyini is thrilled to announce the launch of our inaugural Strategic Plan for 2024 – 2027!

Our Strategic Plan will guide us towards better outcomes for our Aboriginal children and families, and a stronger peak body for our South Australian Aboriginal communities.

With a clear vision in mind and a collective spirit to progress self-determination, we are positioned to achieve success, together with Aboriginal children, families and the Aboriginal Community Controlled sector. The Strategic Plan outlines our goals, objectives, and sets the priorities we will focus on. It embodies our unwavering belief in our potential and highlights our determination to lead positive, transformational impact in all that we do.

Our core values: leadership, cultural integrity, decolonisation, empowerment, human rights and family centred, align with the values and needs of our communities. These values solidify our commitment to achieving our vision, for Aboriginal children to grow up connected, with purpose and identity, to their families, communities, culture, spirituality and Country.

Wakwakurna Kanyini CEO, Ashum Owen stated “the launch of our first Strategic Plan is a significant milestone in Wakwakurna Kanyini’s establishment. It signals to our Aboriginal communities, and to the South Australian government, that we are steadfast in elevating the Aboriginal community voice in our advocacy and leadership, across all agencies and sectors impacting the rights and wellbeing of Aboriginal children and families. Through our Strategic Plan, we aim to address systemic challenges and promote local, community-led approaches and solutions.”

Wakwakurna Kanyini Chairperson, Aunty Sandra Miller said “I am pleased with the launch of the first Strategic Plan, as well as the process we’ve undertaken to get to this point. Our Board and Council members have provided significant contributions to the development of the plan, to ensure Wakwakurna Kanyini’s priorities align with not only the needs of Aboriginal families living in metropolitan areas, but those who live in regional and remote communities too.”

We invite all our communities, stakeholders, members, and supporters to view the Strategic Plan here. Together, we will agitate for change, harness innovation and build a stronger community voice that upholds the rights and wellbeing of our Aboriginal children and families.
